My Creative Space - It's all about the 'stache!

 

I had rather a lot of fun creating this dapper little fellow for Nori, a Japanese friend of ours.

 

 

I used the Hipster Dolls pattern by Katie Allen in Issue 19 of Mollie Makes Magazine.

 

I made him a little sleeveless shirt out of some thrifted woollen fabric and his legs from children's sport socks. I could not resist a little felt moustache and snazzy bow tie. He proudly sports a little koala pin, which was the topper from a souvenir pencil

What Came First - The Dolly Or The Egg?

 

 

I am busy making some little dolls for our Sponsored Children. A 5 year girl in Bangladesh, named Rimi and a 9 year old girl in Honduras, named Soany.

I am having so much fun choosing buttons and trims. The idea for the sock legs came from the latest issue of Mollie Makes.

 

The pattern is from here. And if you google Black Apple doll, there are heaps of images for clothing, face and hair inspiration!

 

What happens when you tell an egg a joke?It cracks up!

 

It's not so funny to have eggs thrown at your house, for the second time, I might add. This was not the kind of surprise I was expecting to see in my letter box this morning.

 

Come back tomorrow and see the finished dolls.

 

(If I am not required to clean up any more dried-on eggs that is!)

Day Three

Not the most inspiring or attractive of rooms in the house......but now I can say with certainty that it is one of the cleanest! (well except for the window/sliding door... but that can wait for another day)

 

Perhaps it is time for a change of style. The dolls do look a bit scary in the pictures!

I would also dearly love some blinds or curtains. It is not really that enjoyable having the neighbours looking down on you as you are filling the washing machine or washing out your smalls. Gone are the days of stripping off in the laundry to put your PJs or undies in the wash!

All that aside, it is a very functional space and I appreciate having 3 big cupboards and bench space. I have got the dirty washing sorted, not so much the  clean stuff. That's what the rumpus room is for, apparently!

Lucky Girl

I was so, so lucky to win Jennie's custom Doll Give-away on her blog A Little Vintage. You can see her post about her over here.

I had a little fright that she had gone missing in the post, but she turned up safe and sound yesterday. Hooray. She is made from some of Grandma Hazel's hankies, a bit of my childhood bedsheet and a gorgeous old button. I just adore her little crochet jacket too.

Thankyou Jennie, I shall treasure her always.

Christmas Is Coming

Stage 2

We have progressed to foods such as pasta, soggy cornflakes, noodles and soft chunky soups. Goody - the blending and processing of individual vegies and meats was proving quite tiresome (I did not want to give him an unindentifable mush) Thanks to everyone that commented about my care of poor Mr M. Good thing I am a teacher, not a nurse!

A Fashion Show

All garments have been made by me over the last few days. The ballerina designed the lace top and shorts and "ordered" the school skirt. All of been made from offcuts and repurposed items, including a denim cushion I made about 20 years ago! The belt is a cat collar from reverse garbage. The ballerina had some fun posing the doll and walking the cat walk to tunes on her IPOD, with her toys watching on!

What ever am I going to do when the Knitted babe book is due back at the library next week. I have had it since, dare I admit it.... October. I have been returning, reborrowing, returning etc. I think I need to buy my own copy!

Sweet

This little sweetie is ready to be sent along to the Mirabel Foundation, via the wonderful Pip at Meet Me at Mikes, to hopefully brighten the day of a little person. She sure brightened my day!

As for last week's Gadget I am still stumped! I have a simple mobile phone - I can't get the hang of predictive text, much to the disbelief of the teen! I love my simple camera too (Canon Powershot A510) and have learned how to do the basics. Photocopiers and overlockers scare me, but I can manage a laminator! I don't really use gadgets in the kitchen, except for the occassional blend with the blender and process with the food processor!

Gadget lovers abound here, especially Kellie the theme selector and her iPhone (sigh, but wouldn't know how to use it anyway)

My Secret Weapon of last week would have to be a virtual one - a life preserver. I was metaphorically clinging to it just to keep my head above water. Of course it would have to be as cute as this little knitted number, even if not entirely practical. And I would have skinny arms and legs as well as looking stunning in a woolly cossie!

Still unnamed...

There are a few names to choose from, but Miss C is as yet unconvinced. So I need you to keep those name suggestions rolling in.....the knitted babe is getting somewhat impatient. She is also unimpressed that I took a pic of her in her knickers. But as they are nice, lace patterned ones, and it is a hot day I told her to get over herself!
I have finished her ballet wrap and am working on the tutu. I am convinced that I won't be taking up garment knitting any time soon!

so go on, keep those names coming,remember there is a prize at stake

A Rose by any other name...

Well here she is... the Knitted Babe in all her curly haired glory! She is made but as yet unnamed, as you see Miss C cannot decide upon the perfect name. This is where you all come in, my trusted blog readers. A challenge to name the knitted one. If you suggest the name that Miss C likes best you will win a little prize, sure to consist of fabric and chocolate. So put your thinking caps on ... and suggest away!

I will leave this open for a week or so depending on how many names there are to choose from. In the meantime I will be churning out a whole wardrobe of clothes for the little miss!
