Wishing

“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.”

-Epicurus

The open house went well yesterday, the feedback was positive and we are hopeful that we will sell soon. I am ready to move on, and do not feel particularly attached to my house. Many friends have asked us why we would want to leave such a lovely, big home. The answer is simple, because it is too much for us. I remember how much I wanted a big house. How I thought that would mean that I had arrived in the World, and was really making something of my life. Now I know that it is just a place to put your stuff. Making something of your life is about people and feelings and doing things. It is not about having things. My house is clean and ordered now, for probably the first time really, but it is still big and far more than we need.
Now, all I wish for a happy and simple life.

  1. lovely! So hope you sell soon. And SO sorry to hear about your foot! What a thing to happen right now! And you are so right - life is not about how big your house is (she says from a tiny rented inner city two bedroom single fronted house), it is much more about people and relationships.
