Flea Market Finds

A Tale of op-shops and old friendsSo, the little old dear that served me at the op shop the other day, tells me in a conspiratorial whisper that she has a box of hankies I may like. She goes to her special little locked cabinet and brings out a cellophane topped box, with the original fosseys $3.49 price sticker intact. It contains about 6 hankies that have seen better days. She announces the price to be $3 to which I politely decline. She then has a good look at my items I have placed on the counter and goes on to charge me $2 for the lot (as pictured above) There is apparently no rhyme or reason to op shop pricing!

The cheery little clown vase found his way into this gift basket for my friend Rachael's 40th Birthday. (She has a wee bit of a clown phobia). The basket was purchased at another opshop, and the rest of the goodies purchased locally. They all relate to my friend in meaningful ways. It was so much fun to put together. I even made a little booklet about the items, encouraging her to take up a new hobby, revisit an old one (she is a talented artist) and face her fears (the clown again!!!!) Being 40 is all about enjoying your favourite treats (even dairy free chocolate!), pampering your hands (lest they belie your age) and enjoying a good cup of tea!

Here is the Birthday Girl with her dairy free, gluten free, chocolate mudcake ( with the trick candles that kept relighting, courtesy of the cheeky waiter)

and here we are, way back in our Uni Days!
She hasn't changed a bit!

  1. That last photo is adorable!
The op-shop pricing rule is one I'm yet to understand either. We'll never complain about a bargain though!

  8. Such a sweet friendship you two have. Love the uni-days pic!

How funny are op-shop ladies?! There's one op-shop I go to where one of the ladies thinks the shop should be a bit more upmarket and has put ridiculously high prices on everything. But if she's not there the other ladies will drop all the prices when you ask them, all the while muttering about the "boss" lady and her funny ideas.

I think the op-shop ladies are, for me, half the fun of shopping this way. The other half is the fact you can still get a bunch of goodies like yours for $2!
